Sector Alert - ACCC Ban on Baby Bottle Self‑Feeding Devices
27th May 2026
A permanent national ban on baby bottle self‑feeding devices is now in effect due to significant risks of choking, aspiration and suffocation.
These products enable infants to feed without active adult supervision, which presents an unacceptable safety risk.
It is now illegal in Australia to manufacture, supply, advertise, or possess these devices.
The ban includes bottle‑propping products, wearable bottle holders, and straw‑style feeding systems used as a baby’s primary nutrition source.
Maternal, Child and Family Health Services are encouraged to share this information with staff and families, reinforce safe feeding practices, and advise immediate cessation of use.
