MCaFHNA History
The origins of MCaFHNA date back to 2001, when several nursing organisations joined together to form an incorporated association, the Australian Association of Maternal Child and Family Health Nurses Incorporated (AAMCFHN Inc). Although it commenced with just a few associations, AAMCFHN grew to include groups from all Australian jurisdictions.
In 2013, AAMCFHN changed its name to the Maternal, Child and Family Health Nurses Australia (MCaFHNA) Inc. and again, the State and Territory groups were the members of the organisation. During the life of AAMCFHN / MCaFHNA, the following groups have been members:
Australian Capital Territory
Child and Family Nurses Association Australian Capital Territory Inc. (CFNAACT)
New South Wales
Child and Family Health Nurses Association (NSW) Inc. (CAFHNA)
Northern Territory
Northern Territory Child and Family Health Nurses Association Inc. (NTCFHNA)
Queensland
Queensland Child and Family Health Nurses Association Inc. (QCAFHNA)
South Australia
South Australian Child and Family Health Nurses Association Inc. (SACFHNA)
Victoria
Victorian Association of Maternal and Child Health Nurses Special Interest Group (VAMCFHN) and Maternal and Child Health Nurses Victoria Inc. (MCHN Vic)
Western Australia
Community Health Nurses WA Inc. (CHNWA)
Tasmania
Tasmanian College of Child and Family Health Nurses Inc. (TCCFHN)
In 2021, MCaFHNA changed to a company with a direct membership structure (where individuals, not the State and Territory groups, are the members).
